Thrift - Store finds

I have styled others in Kimonos but I, personally, had never worn one. In fact, I wasn't confident that I could pull it off. But, while I was sifting through Saver's last week, I came across this aqua floral print kimono with a macrame string fringe for $3.99. I have a great appreciate for unique details. And...for crying out loud, at that price it would be silly not to at least try it! When I put it on, the macrame fringe pulled in, gathering at my hips. It was cute!

I had envisioned pairing it with flared jeans giving it a more retro vibe but, when I put on my flared jeans, it was too much flowy fabrics and my figure was lost and looking frumpy. Pairing the kimono and this bright orange ruffled shirt my new sts blue skinny jeans gave me balance and my figure re-appeared!

Styling tip: Remember the rule of opposites

When wearing a flowy top, pair it with a tailor/fitted bottom, like skinny jeans or a pencil skirt.

When wearing a flowy bottom, like wide legged pants or a full skirt, pair them with tailored fitted tops.

Today, I am sitting hoping for warmer weather. They say, "it's coming!" When it does, I'll be ready with this outfit.
